Wah Lok @ Carlton Hotel

Went to Wah Lok today for Sunday family brunch. Ordered a few of their signature dishes since this is the first time we're trying out this restaurant, and we wanted to get a feel of their character.

Their Signature Bo Luo Char Siew Bao

I liked the pineapple crust of the Bo Lo. However, the body of the bun was a little unconventional (similar to hot cross bun).
The filling was quite sad, it had a strong leeky taste and the char siew wasn't sufficient. Personally, I prefer the tim ho wan buns more.

Suckling pig! I thought this dish was the best, very crispy skin and the meat was very moist and soft!

Wintermelon soup with crab meat and fish maw - good

Lobster Mee Pok with Veggie and Lingzhi Mushrooms

Um not very good, the Chinese-style lobster, the noodle was okay only

Their desserts

- house special custard pastry
I would love it more if the pastry was more crispy! And for the custard to have more character, slightly more salty or a little sweeter. Very mellow character.

- bird's neat with rock sugar, okay.

- almond cream, okay.

- herbal jelly, okay.

Food was okay, presentation was a little iffy. I thought the most annoying thing was the amount of background noise, the staff were sorting out porcelain bowls and plates in front of our table, we could hear the conversation of people next to us. Will really appreciate if they played some background music at least? $325 for 4 without drinks.
