Syun Restaurant Review : sub-par food at astronomical prices
Went to Syun because it just opened. It's a japanese restaurant in resort world sentosa opened by a celebrity japanese chef, and it was disappointing to say the least.
Above is the famous Wagyu uni which aesthetically looks pleasing, but the Wagyu was tough and the uni was not fresh. When we complained to the waiter, he insisted that the use grade A5 Wagyu beef. At $15 for this bite, it was one of the worst decisions of 2015.
We ordered the 7-course which included sashimi and a chef's selection, miso cod and a choice of tough Wagyu or overly sautéed and cooked miso cod with a bland dessert.
This Chef's selection was bad, the egg was overcooked and the hijiki salad was tasteless.
Pork belly was tough and bland
Wagyu sigh pie
Plain sea bream
Miso cod - not chewy and sauce was drenching the whole fish
Pork Shabu-Shabu
Not at all authentic, traditional restaurants normally put the soy sauce in the soup
The waiter who prepared if overcooked the pork
Chocolate - red bean dessert which was ok only
At a time when the Singapore japanese market is already developed with fine-dining places like Shinji and Hashida, casual eateries like sushi bar and standing sushi bar, cheap sushi like itacho, Syun fails to find its niche or deliver.
We left feeling very hungry (having not eaten anything) and also super disappointed with the sub-par dinner
