Sushi Jin Restaurant Review

Sushi Jin is a 3-month old restaurant which opened up to fill the gap between high-end restaurants (Shinji / Hashida) and the cheap sushi conveyor belts. It's opened by the Les Amis group and the kitchen is helmed by the chef from Fat Cow Ronnie (from Penang Malaysia)

I thought that he was very eager to please and really tried to reach out to all the diners, especially since the restaurant is still new / he talked about how he was pivotal in developing menus for other japanese restaurants in Vietnam etc

Feel like similar to Tatsuya, he tries to infuse a lot of southeast Asian twists to the sushi. Sometimes a little too much. Like the dessert, tempura sesame balls, where my food partner asked me, wait are we eating Chinese or japanese food?

Anyway outside the restaurant is a really cute green apple - sorry couldn't help it

We ordered the Jin Omakase ($130) which includes sashimi, 1 cooked dish, salad, tempura, dessert and 5 sushi (2 aburi and 3 normal)

Sashimi was salmon and sawfish, I liked the sawfish for its unique texture between ika and the normal fishes

Tempura was tempura dumplings
Again it was like eating deep fried Shu Mai / pork dumplings, and was a little too arvant garde for me, also came with a spicy chilli sauce

Cooked dish was red snapper with mushroom and tofu, this was good

Sushi was alright, tuna was normal

Salmon was good

Aburi - ok

Aburi - ok

This was good - foie gras and hotate aburi

This clear soup was pretty bland, felt like I was drinking plain boiled water

Tempura glutinous rice balls with chocolate sauce and peanut

Ordered additional aburi
The prawn sushi, scallop sushi and salmon belly sushi are worthy of mention

I think Jin's dinner prices aren't really worth it? The food is decent and I may go for the lunch sets. Too much of a slant towards Chinese dim sum??
