Cuppaflower Waterloo Cafe Sydney

Cuppaflower Waterloo shot to fame with their signature Totoro matcha and sesame Swiss roll. Saw the picture of their instagram when I was at Cambridge studying for my finals, and resolutely decided that I wanted to visit this place for post-finals redemption!

After visiting Grounds of Alexandria with another medic, we walked about 12 minutes to this cafe. I was amused to see a veritable line snaking through the street.

There is a no reservations system, you have to write down your name, number of people in your party, and whether you prefer to sit inside or outside. They will slowly go down the list and call out your name.

Having already had brunch, I was thinking of just doggy-bagging the totoro cake instead of waiting. However, they have a new policy whereby they believe that doggy bagging the totoro cake will diminish the quality of the cake, so they insist that you can only have it when you dine in. This rationale for this policy is slightly dubious, considering the fact that they let you take away 1. a chicken sandwich 2. sticky and oily rice noodles 3. multi-layered millefeuile cake with delicate crepes

After being seated, we were told that you had to go to the counter to place the order. You get a 5% discount if you pay by cash. So bring ca$h!

All in all, very decent black sesame and matcha cakes. Their savory items like rice noodles and the big breakfast were not bad too. Maybe go on a weekday to avoid the queue?
