Obama dreams of Tempura: Tempura Kondo
My mummy was most excited about this restaurant out of our whole Japan trip. She heard that the chef said no to Obama making a reservation because he was already fully committed, and she respected that a lot.
This restaurant is helmed by Fumio Kondo, he opened this restaurant in ginza in 1992 and he has been diligently working the batters and re-defining our perspective of tempura. Tempura is commonly perceived by the western world as a heavily deep fried and unhealthy batter or fast food. Contrary, the tempura was light and fluffy yet crispy, and you left feeling sated and healthy. How did he achieve this? By dutifully preparing two tempura batters, frequently changing the oil and using only the freshest of ingredients
Got the set which included an amazing selection of appetizers and my favorite Shirako

Fried prawn
They put fresh oranges and salt on your right and fresh radish and tempura sauce in your left and it's up to your discretion and fancy to dip the tempura which you're given
Fried asparagus
Eggplant!
Fish
Chestnut
Lotus - the seeds were inside
Onion - I didn't have this so they replaced it with lilybulb which I recommend
Mushroom - this was good, super fresh and juicy mushroom
Anago
Sweet potato which you had to pre-order 49 minutes in advance, very big and can serve up to 4 people
My favorite dish
Uni with shiso leaf, the iodine taste of the uni complemented the sweetness of the shiso leaves along with the crispness of the tempura batter
You get a choice of the rice dish
I chose tencha which is tempura kakiage on top of rice, and you add a special Japanese tea on it
The freshest orange I ever ate in my life
Sweeter than honey
